Down 4-3 in the ninth inning, a Ryan Garko solo homer and RBI singles by Jason Cooper and Einar Diaz gave the Buffalo Bison a 6-4 lead over the host Columbus Clippers.
Buffalo closer Ben Howard, a former Padres pitching prospect, coughed up two runs in the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings.
Buffalo erupted for six runs in the 10th inning. Andy Marte drove in a run with a sac fly, Jose Flores singled in a pair of runs, Diaz singled in another run. Jason Dubois pushed across another run thanks to an error on Columbus, and Joe Inglett capped off the outburst with another RBI single of his own.
Vic Darensbourg pitched the 10th inning for Buffalo and nearly coughed up another lead. He allowed three runs in the Clippers half of the 10th but managed to escape and give Buffalo the win.
Other than Garko, Inglett, Ramon Vazquez and Ben Francisco, Buffalo’s lineup didn’t have a lot of notables. But Jeremy Sowers, not far from his MLB debut started this game, and Tom Mastny and Danny Graves both pitched in relief.
