The Buffalo Bisons (yes, they go by Bisons on their site even though the plural is still Bison), scored 10 runs in the first three innings on the way to an 11-9 win over the Durham Bulls.
Ryan Garko singled in three runs over the first two innings and each of the first two innings led off walk and a hit by pitch, respectively, to make things worse for Durham.
Jody Gerut contributed to the offensive outburst with three hits in the first three innings, including two doubles that eventually became part of a five hit night for Gerut.
Gerut later homered in the sixth and singled in the eighth to finish off the feat.
After a breakout rookie season in 2003, Gerut struggled in 2004 and tore his ACL in September, which is why in May of 2005 he was back with Buffalo. He was traded to Chicago in June of 2005.
Another interesting anecdote from this game is that Garko, who had three RBI as mentioned, was still catching at this point.
Francisco Cruceta, who was a well thought of prospect at the time and made a brief debut in 2004 for Cleveland, started the game and allowed nine runs (five earned) in 3.2 innings. Ken Rayborn picked up the win in relief and Matt Miller earned the save.
