A daily feature of Indians Baseball Insider, Around the Farm, obviously won’t be able to be produced until there are minor league games played. In its place, for the time being, a fun feature we are going to try out is This Day in Indians Minor League History. We will do some research and try to find some interesting or random box scores or information that happened in the Indians minor leagues on this particular day. We will try to make this a daily feature as long as we can find something to post other than just repeating items from the last few years to avoid too much repetitiveness. Hope you enjoy, stay well and hope we can get baseball back soon!

April 13, 2005

This one is just kind of a random box score. But this one on April 13, 2005, was the first win for Roberto Hernandez, then known as Fausto Carmona, at Double-A Akron. I tried to find some archived box score’s from 2003 when Carmona/Hernandez burst onto the scene throwing 97 mph sinkers at Lake County.

But 2005 was his final full minor league season that started at Akron.

On this day, his second start of the 2005 season, Carmona/Hernandez threw seven innings allowing just six hits, a run with a walk and four strikeouts.

His numbers that year in Akron actually weren’t all that good on the surface. He had a 4.07 ERA for his stint there before getting promoted to Triple-A Buffalo.

The Aeros scored seven runs against the Bowie Baysox for Carmona/Hernandez with the offensive stars being hopefully hitting prospects Jason Cooper (two RBI) and Michael Aubrey (two RBI). The hitter in that Aeros lineup for that game who went onto have the best MLB career was the DH that day, Franklyn Gutierrez.
